PoPP is the first in a possible series of projects under a program called: Writing to Succeed - Fostering Creativity through Poetry. The purpose of PoPP is to build creativity that powers imagination and therefore prepares children for the challenges of the 21st Century.
As a result of donations from: The Crown Point Community Foundation, Write-on Hoosiers, Magic Hour Writers, personal donations from members of IWC and the general public, the IWC pilot project: Power of Poetry Project (PoPP) became a reality.
Through the cooperation of Crown Point's Lake Street School principal and staff, arrangements were made possible for four IWC members to visit the teachers and 370 students at the K-5 elementary school in November.
Many thanks goes out to Katherine Flotz, Sharon Palmeri, Judy Whitcomb and Jackie Huppenthal, who shared their enthusiasm and knowledge of poetry to help the children foster and build skills that will strengthen creativity and develop poetry appreciation.
